因为母亲生病住院,我不得不回国。
Because my mother was sick and in the hospital, I had no choice but to go back to my country.
Explanation
勉强 ("barely, reluctantly, to force")
this entry has three meanings. A. (Adjective) lacking the ability but still trying one's best (能力不够,还尽力去做). B. (Adjective) doing something grudgingly, barely managing, making do, not willing (凑合;不情愿的). C. To force others to do what they do not want to do (使人做他自己不愿意做的事): to coerce, to compel.
不忍 ("can't bear to")
uneasy at heart, unable to bring oneself to (心里忍受不了,不愿意). Used in the form 不忍 + V.
舍不得 ("be loath to part with")
A. Unable to bring oneself to leave or part (不忍离开或分离). The affirmative form is “舍得”, usually used in questions or comparisons. B. Cherishing something so much that one cannot bear to use or throw it away (很爱惜,不忍使用或丢弃).
不得不 ("have no choice but to")
indicates that an action or behavior does not come from one's own wish, but is done because there is no other way. The meaning is the same as “只好” (have to), but the tone is stronger.
Comparing “只好” and “不得不”: “不得不” cannot be used in negative sentences, whereas “只好” can.
